Jonathan (J Ill) is Filipino-American DJ based in Los Angeles, CA. His journey djing started in 2015, his junior year in college, when a friend sold him his first turntable setup. After joining ACODJ's, he quickly found himself behind the decks at local LA/OC clubs and bars. Since then, his passion for DJing has led him to spin in various cities and countries, including Orange County, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Texas, Vancouver, and Costa Rica. J Ill has performed as an opening act for artists such as Tinashe, YG, Fetty Wap, Famous Dex, IAMSU!, DJ Mustard, JAEL, J Espinosa, Andre Power, and Bone Thugs N Harmony. In 2019, J Ill created SoulCtrl, a genre-fluid event that has been ongoing for 5 years. SoulCtrl has hosted over 50+ live events in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego featuring both local and international DJs/live performers. Over time, SoulCtrl has expanded its horizons into merchandise, live-streaming, and online mixes, broadening its influence on a global scale.J Ill's style of DJing takes inspiration from a wide range of genres including, Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, Neo-Soul, Electronic, House, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Baile Funk, and Drum & Bass. J.III's academy of djs story
J Ill, a member of Academy of DJs Season 2, transitioned into the local bar and club scene after graduating. Shortly after he was brought on as a mentor for ACODJs Seasons 8-12. Being a teacher gave him the opportunity to share his knowledge in the craft, his experiences in the industry , and the wisdom passed down from those before him. Through ACODJ, J Ill forged lasting friendships, cherished memories, and experience to create his own path as a DJ.
